I bought a new purse last week before I went to Haven. My old one was getting sort of raggedy looking, and when I found the perfect platinum colored new purse for just $20, it was a no-brainer. I don't know if you're one of those people who switch purses to go with your outfit or what, but I personally do NOT fall into that category. So...I have to periodically clean out my … [Read more...]
Laundry Room! The Big Reveal!
Well friends, it took about 4 times as long as we thought to finish our laundry room re-do, but it's pretty much done now. (Well except for where the plumber cut the sink hole in the counter too large and we had to order a new counter top. Still waiting on that, but such is life.) I have been dreaming up this laundry room for YEARS, and I'm happy to say that it both … [Read more...]
Plum Cobbler {Fruit Cobbler Recipe}
I was at Haven last week in Atlanta and had a blast meeting loads of talented and fun women! My roommates and I got deliriously silly one night and made a vlog that I'll share with you soon. I still can't believe I did it, but I did! And it is most definitely ridiculous! So...more to come on that! Today though, before my baby had to have his tooth pulled, I took my kiddos … [Read more...]
Summer Fun and the Haven Conference!
Summer is here and that means that I have both of my kids at home...all day...every day. I have to admit that I kinda forgot what that looks like. Last week my hubs was gone to a work conference in Orlando from Sunday morning thru Friday. My kids were insane the entire week! INSANE! I took them to my parents house for a couple of days thinking the change of scenery would … [Read more...]
Coffee for Melissa & A Giveaway!!!
You all may remember when I wrote about my dear friend Melissa a few months ago. She is battling stage 4 breast cancer and needs our help. Melissa's husband Brad is self-employed, they have 3 small children (ages 7, 3, and 22 months,) and the medical bills needed to treat the cancer are stacking up faster than you can drink a cup of coffee. My amazing friend Jessica, co-host of … [Read more...]
Just for Laughs…from the farm
I went to a goat farm with a friend yesterday. She was on milking duty (the goats are shared between a few families) and we'd been wanting to hang out, so she invited us to join her and her kids. My boys LOVED it. Made me want to have lots of land and maybe even a couple of goats, or chickens. This farm had alpacas also. Alpacas are kind of rude. They basically hock … [Read more...]
What’s Cooking?! Pad Thai Salad
In an effort to keep things different in my fridge around here without starving while I'm on the Daniel Fast, I'm trying out some different salads here lately. This pad thai salad that I made for the first time today is from one of my favorite cookbooks, Fresh Everyday by Sara Foster. I'll make it again. It is really yummy! And instead of chopping cabbage, I used a bag of … [Read more...]
Los Luchadores…The Fighters
In Spanish, the word "Luchador" means "fighter." Technically it refers to "free fighting" or "free wrestling" and is a pretty big deal in Mexico. I think it's pretty much the Mexican version of WWF. The Luchadors wear masks to cover their faces. Apparently, sometimes the loser of a match has to remove his mask...exposing him for the mere man beneath. Seems to be some form … [Read more...]
Life in the Fast Lane
So... I'm starting a 21-day fast on Friday. It's not a no-food-for-40-days-and-nights kind of thing, but the intention of it is the same really. The point of a fast is to seek greater communion with God by using food promptings and hunger pangs to push you towards time with Him. That's a gross synopsis of something people write full books about, but for my intents and … [Read more...]
What’s Cooking?! Blue Ridge Black Bean Salad/Salsa
It's been awhile since I've shared a stand out recipe and this one just screams summer to me! We were at my parent's lakehouse this past weekend for Memorial Day and we ate the heck out of this super yummy and ridiculously healthy salad/salsa stuff. It is so good you could eat it straight from the bowl. It's also awesome for a really fast dinner salad to toss over some … [Read more...]
Just Stop Screaming!
I had a really mature moment yesterday. So mature in fact, that I thought I'd share with all of you equally mature people out there who also happen to be raising our future generation. Let me set the scene. Birthday party at the Children's Museum. We arrived late and thus playtime was cut in half. Loads of sugar and blue icing....everywhere. Not enough time, so... … [Read more...]
Dog Days….of Summer, and of Life!
So, It's been AGES since I've written here. Sorry about that. I have loads of things to share too....our amazing trip to Mexico, a funny story about how the Arbys lady (who looked like Granny Klampett) tried to save me at the gas pump, pictures of my almost done laundry room and newly painted living room. Seriously...life has been full here lately and I just haven't made the … [Read more...]
Set Your Spirit Free…
"I like to be a free spirit. Some don't like that, but that's the way I am." - Princess Diana "To be true to myself, to be the person that was on the inside of me, and not play games. That's what I'm trying to do mostly in whole world..." - Janice Joplin Last week, I went to get my hair cut and colored. After almost a … [Read more...]
More Than Just Houdini…
I love the circus. I've loved it since I was a kid. There's something mesmerizing about the blend of all the colors, the lights, the performers. Something almost magical about it. As I've gotten older though, the circus has held a new fascination for me. The "tricks" I saw the performers do as a kid, make my stomach drop now. The trapeze artists swinging high above the ground … [Read more...]
Anesthesia….
So, while I wouldn't in a million years choose to have the procedure I've done TWICE in the past week, you have to admit that any time there's anesthesia or pain medication involved, there is a chance for ridiculousness. Yesterday was no exception. First, Mike and the other nurse anesthetist (whose name I can't remember,) came in to give me something to "help me relax and … [Read more...]
If I had superpowers, today I’d do this stuff…
I've had to be in bed way too many hours lately, and my creative bone is being forced to rest way more than seems natural. I've been all over the web looking for super fun things to do with my kids this week since it's spring break. Of course, they're now at my mom's for a couple of days so that I can have surgery again today. Indulge me while I show you (and provide links) … [Read more...]
