Spring has sprung and with sunshiny days and the top rolled down on our car, I just can’t think of anything better to do that to break out an oldie but goodie post to kick off your Spring Break road tripping!
A few years ago I drove with my kids from Upstate South Carolina to Florida by myself for the first time. And because they were super little and I was probably terrified to be going with a potty training toddler and a 6 year old, I did what any rational person does and made a massive mix-tape to pass the time.
Don’t you love that…I made a “mix-tape.” And I still call it that…even though it totally dates me. It obviously wasn’t an actual cassette tape (which would have been gloriously old-school) , but I had a great time on Spotify the day before I left creating a mix of songs that made the time fun.
It’s a fantastic list if I do say so myself. And of course it’s not comprehensive because…HELLO…DECADES OF GREAT MUSIC chocked full of nostalgia and happiness to choose from. This list is still fabulous, but I’ve added some additional new favorites as well as some more oldies but goodies to a BONUS list at the bottom.
Drumroll please….Here they are folks:

I think this would definitely win me over. I was in the middle of giving you some suggestions on FB the other day when you asked, but kid interception, or more like parent interception happened. Hope you’re having a good time!

This is a great list! It’s just a 4 hour drive (relocating) though. Will add some Jack Johnson songs to the list too…
Julie says
I would also add some from Jack Johnson (Upside Down), Passenger (Let Her Go & Life’s For The Living) or/and Ed Sheeran (U.N.I. and more), for example… Acoustic songs are awesome for road trips… Well, my opinion 😉 xx

I can’t believe you forgot Sweet Home Alabama and Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. And how you forgot bands like Kansas, Styx, Poison, Boston… jeez… -_-

Oops, I forgot to add… “Tracy Chapman – Give me one more reason” is an absolute must to make this list complete

Thank you so much! I have a bunch of road trips this summer and I have looked all over the internet for good ideas. Most of the ones I have found are either all oldies, all explicit or just all mellow songs. This is a perfect mesh! I’m loving it!

Life is a Highway is an original from Tom Cochrane (and is much better than Rascall Flatts)….
Thanks for the list though, awesome!
